The Water's Edge

Lake of the Woods, Virginia
Project Image

Lake of the Woods is not a typical neighborhood. The community is built around a shared relationship with the water, and the best homes there respond to that relationship rather than ignore it. When the owners of this property came to Halsey Homes, the goal was clear: bring the home into alignment with the setting it had always been surrounded by.

Responding to the Water

Waterfront renovation is a different discipline than building from the ground up. The structure is fixed, the relationship to the water is already established, and the work is about uncovering and honoring what is already there while correcting what has accumulated through years of deferred decisions. At The Water's Edge, that meant thoughtful updates to the exterior, careful attention to how the home meets the landscape, and improvements that serve the way this family actually uses the property across every season.

Built to Belong

The result is a home that looks and feels like it belongs precisely where it sits. The connection between interior living and the water beyond was strengthened throughout, with exterior improvements that address both the character of the home and its long-term durability. Lake of the Woods demands materials and details that can handle Virginia's full range of weather, and every selection was made with that in mind.

This project is a reminder that renovation, done well, is not about erasing what exists. It is about understanding the potential of what is already there and building toward it with care.
